Pizza John’s is a family owned and operated Italian restaurant in Essex. Beginning in 1966, the restaurant has become a Baltimore staple over the years. Pizza John’s takes pride in using fresh dough, grated cheeses, homemade sauces, and butcher-cut meats. Their menu includes a wide variety of pizza, pasta, subs, and authentic Italian platters. For dessert, Pizza John’s has an assortment of hand-dipped ice cream, homemade cannolis, cheesecakes, and milkshakes.

When Pizza John’s opened in 1966, it was a carryout only business. The first owner of the business, John Coruzzi, was an Italian immigrant pursuing the American Dream. A year after opening, John teamed up with his brothers, Peter and Anthony, to make the business a successful venture. In 1977, the restaurant moved to a larger location, and by 1981, they had a dining room to serve 80 sit-down customers at a time.

After decades of success at Pizza John’s, John and Anthony Coruzzi retired. Brett and Melissa Steall Coruzzi joined Peter Coruzzi to run the restaurant in the same year. Today, Pizza John’s has a 320 person dining room capacity, and is still a very successful business venture. They even offer shipping of bake at home pizzas across the country, as well as collaboration with several Baltimore local businesses.
